The Drama Desk Award nominees were announced this morning and producers for Shuffle Along, which had been snubbed by the other award nominating committees, must have been pleased with the Outstanding Musical and other nods.

Nominees have been announced for the sixth annual Off-Broadway Alliance Awards, recognizing artists in seven competitive categories: Best New Musical, Best New Play, Best Musical Revival, Best Play Revival, Best Unique Theatrical Experience, Best Solo Performance, and Best Family Show.

Perhaps the most interesting development: “Shuffle Along,” the musical opening tonight with a stellar cast including Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell, was deemed a new musical, putting it in the running for outstanding musical with fellow Broadway titles “Waitress ” and “School of Rock” (as well as Off Broadway productions “First Daughter Suite” and “Daddy Long Legs”).
